Aquariums are fun to visit with young kids, even babies. They love to watch colorful fish and their movements, which can be calming. Infact, it helps in cognitive development. Older kids can try reading the fish species, plants, reef, habitat, etc.
In this video, Nia and Neil explores various aquariums across America. Their favorite is the Waikiki aquarium at Honolulu, Hawaii. Committed to sustainability, the Waikīkī Aquarium has taken measures to curb the use of plastic bottles, installed photovoltaic solar panels to reduce energy consumption and has converted to LED lighting wherever possible. Nia's aunt and uncle used to volunteer for this amazing aquarium which also supports various marine researches. It has ample open tanks to display various species in the open sunlight. (Obviously, they are not twilight zone or midnight zone sea creatures.) Currently(2020), all exhibits are closed at Waikiki Aquariums due to less funding.
Sea life Park at Hawaii is another wonderful place for kids. Nia enjoyed feeding yellow fish, fresh lettuce leaf. They had so much fun watching the dolphins and sea lions. Spent a great deal of time at Discovery reef touch pool, shark cave and the turtle habitat.
Rest of the video and pictures are from Monterey Bay Aquarium at California. Amazing kelp forest, open ocean and jelly fish were major hits with kids. Touch pools were awesome, Nia even tried to touch a ray fish.
